Afoxe
It can be defined as a joke of specific form, content and behavior, as its members-revelers are linked to a candomblé terreiro, united by a religion, by the use of language, dance, rhythm and codes of Nagô origin. The word “afoxé” means divination, prophecy or prediction of the future. This folkloric manifestation is characterized mainly by the central figure - the babalawô or baba-oni-awô - the father who knows the future, the destinies, initiated in the mysteries of the oracular game, accompanied by his “helpers”, around whom all the playful activity of the group. Participants wear satin clothes and some daughters of saints, dressed in Bahian clothes, carry a banner. The center of profound interest of the afoxé is the black doll - babalotim - embroidered on the banner. The members sing in Nagô language and are often applauded by the audience.
