A city of important natural wealth, with a large number of waterfalls, among them the Itiquira Waterfall, located 34 kilometers from the city center, is one of the highest in Latin America with 168 meters in height. Another well-known spot is Lagoa Feia, six kilometers long and a half wide and between 4 and 10 meters deep.

There is also Lajedo that forms large natural pools, the Grotto das Andorinhas approximately 250 meters deep, Buraco das Araras approximately 100 meters deep and the Bandeirinha River which forms several waterfalls. It has an important archaeological site called Bisnau.

It was included in 2011, as one of the 100 Brazilian cities with appeals and tourist attractions in the Ministry of Tourism as indicated by the CNTur- National Confederation of Tourism. The city of Formosa is recognized by sailors as one of the best places in Brazil to practice the sport. Cross country flights are possible almost all year round, and from August to October is the season for long distance flights, generally exceeding 500 km
