With a geographically privileged location, Dourados is located in the center-south of Mato Grosso do Sul close to the watershed of the basins of the Paraná and Paraguay rivers (the Serra de Maracaju). As a feature of its rich reddish soil and tropical climate, it has good urban infrastructure such as the extensive hotel chain, several pizzerias and restaurants with varied typical dishes. As in the rest of the state, its characteristic drink is tereré, which is easy to prepare and taken mainly during informal meetings between friends.

Its airport is one of the main access points for tourists who wish to visit the city together with its bus terminal. And also for both, it is possible to visit Bonito and the Pantanal regions from Dourados.

With an agenda full of cultural events, the municipality of Dourados attracts many visitors by hosting events such as Expoagro (agricultural, industrial and commercial exhibition in Dourados), Encontro de Corais (brings together choral groups from all over Brazil as well as from neighboring countries like Paraguay, Uruguay and others), FESTUDO (University Festival of Theater of Dourados, a festival in which groups from Brazil and neighboring countries participate)
