Lucas do Rio Verde is a city that developed very fast, because until the end of the 90s the electric power network was not served, it only had oil generating engines to supply the city. Until the early 2000s, the city was predominantly southern, but with the dissemination of the prodigy of monocultures, people from various regions of the country migrated to the city, mainly after the arrival of multinational companies.

Although the distribution of ecosystems defined by the IBGE considers the region as an area of ecological tension between the Amazon Forest and the Cerrado, the floristic predominance corresponds to the cerrado.
Colonization was encouraged by the military regime that intended to occupy the 'demographic voids of the country'.
