The main attraction of the municipality is its own history, which can be searched at the Museu Delmiro Gouveia. As a natural beauty, the city boasts part of the São Francisco canyon. Among the festivities are the patron feast (October) and the carnival.

Delmiro Gouveia was also responsible for the implementation of the second hydroelectric plant in South America (the first being the Marmelos Hydroelectric Plant, in Minas Gerais). Before Delmiro, the place was called Pedra, due to the large amount of this mineral in the region's backwoods soil. The village was constituted from a railroad station of the then Great-Western.
