In Recife, the carnival opens with the departure of the largest carnival block in the world, Galo da Madrugada, on Saturday morning. In the Recife Antigo neighborhood, the afternoon begins with handicraft fairs and presentations by percussive groups, among other attractions.

Following, later in the evening, an agenda of shows that are held on stages spread across all districts of Recife and the metropolitan region, where the RECBEAT, the carnival of alternative Recife youth takes place simultaneously. On Monday night, in Pátio do Terço, one of the most exciting manifestations of black culture in the northeast is held, the Night of Silent Drums, punctually at midnight.
