The minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado Neto, participated this Monday (29.03), in Fortaleza (CE), in the ceremony that made official the transfer of R $ 500 million from the General Tourism Fund (Fungetur) to Banco do Nordeste (BNB) . The first R $ 250 million will be released later this month. The funds are part of the R $ 5 billion allocated to the sector to combat the impacts caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Also participating in the event were the president of BNB, Romildo Rolim; the National Secretary for Attracting Investments, Partnerships and Concessions, Lucas Fiuza; Embratur's president, Carlos Brito; the president of ABIH Nacional, Manoel Linhares; in addition to other authorities and parliamentarians.

During the ceremony, carried out according to the biosafety protocols against Covid-19, Minister Gilson Machado delivered to the president of BNB, Romildo Rolim, a check symbolizing the transfer of MTur resources. The Northeast has great potential for hiring Fungetur resources by BNB in the Region, which has 23.918 tourism service providers registered with Cadastur. In Ceará alone, the number reaches 2.601.

The offer of a credit line of this size was only possible through the historic release, by the government of President Jair Bolsonaro, of an extraordinary credit (MP 963) to Fungetur. Transformed into Law 14.051, of September 8, 2020, the measure authorized R $ 5 billion in credit, mainly for micro, small and medium entrepreneurs who work in the sector and whose activities were interrupted by the pandemic.

The Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado Neto, pointed out that Fungetur is fundamental to guarantee the functioning of companies, as well as the maintenance of jobs in the sector, especially in this period. "Without a doubt, it is a historic achievement for those who live on tourism," he said, recalling that most of the values accessed were for Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEI). “We know the importance that tourism has and can have in the economy of the Northeast. We have had an exemplary job in maintaining jobs and, within the tourist countries, we are one of those who have saved the most jobs ”, he declared.

In 2020, according to the IBGE Monthly Survey of Services, tourist activities in Ceará decreased by 40,9%. The drop was mainly driven by the restaurant, air transport, hotel, public passenger transport and travel agencies segments. In December, the tourist activity index in Ceará showed stability for the first time after months of increase, with a variation of -0,1% in comparison with December 2019.

Embratur's president, Carlos Brito, reaffirmed that every effort is being made by Minister Gilson Machado and also by Embratur so that the sector can get out of this pandemic in the best possible way, saving lives, companies and jobs. "You can trust that, seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, we will be on hand to support Brazilian tourism," he said. "We are sure that our sector, despite being one of the first to experience difficulties due to the pandemic, has immense potential for the recovery of our country's economy," he said.

The president of BNB, Romildo Rolim, thanked the MTur partnership and stressed the relevance of values for tourism in the locations served by Banco do Nordeste. “Bringing this R $ 500 million to increase funding and make this operation even better, we are very happy. MTur and his team are committed to the proper application of these resources ”, he said.

FUNGETUR - The Fund is a financing line, with resources from the Ministry of Tourism, which, given the crisis scenario caused by the pandemic of Covid-19, has rates (up to 5% per year, plus Selic) and terms (up to 240 months) differentiated to assist tourism enterprises across the country.

Of the contracted universe, 93% of the funds were destined to Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEI) and micro, small and medium-sized companies. In addition, 83% of the contracts signed this year were for working capital. Fungetur currently has 27 financial institutions accredited to operate the more than R $ 5 billion in funds released by the Ministry of Tourism this year.

The national secretary of Attraction for Investments, Partnerships and Concessions, Lucas Fiuza, stressed the importance of Fungetur and reinforced the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism to develop the sector in the country with quality, efficiency and investments. "Our goal is to contribute to the resumption of the sector, in a safe, responsible and competitive manner, guaranteeing more jobs and income in our country," he said.
