'It is essential for the prevention of sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in tourism that companies and tourism service providers are partners, adopting an explicit position of repudiation of this crime, and assume the commitments established in the Code of Conduct', noted the coordinator General of Responsible Tourism at the Ministry of Tourism, Rafaela Lehmann.

In yet another round of meetings to improve tourism security in the country, the Ministry of Tourism held, this Tuesday (01.06), a technical workshop to propose actions to prevent the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in the sector. The meeting is part of a project developed by Pasta and Embratur in order to support integrated policies to increase safety among tourists in national attractions.

The Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado Neto, warned of the importance of discussions on the topic to combat this crime that affects thousands of children and adolescents in the country. “It is a subject that needs to be discussed and disseminated not only in our tourist chain, but throughout society. We need good actions, such as those that our technicians are proposing, to overcome this evil that plagues our childhood and youth”, said the minister.

The group presented proposals for the axis "Prevention of the Exploitation of Children and Adolescents in Tourism", which brings actions such as updating the multiplier manual, launched by the Ministry of Tourism, conducting distance courses and raising awareness among workers and enterprises in the sector. tourist on the topic. Among them is also the adherence of companies to the Brazil Code of Conduct, which aims to guide and establish standards of ethical behavior regarding the prevention and confrontation of sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.

In addition to preventing the exploitation of children and adolescents, the Ministry of Tourism prepares actions that involve several areas, including: Health Surveillance, Public Safety, Civil Defense, Consumer Relations, Transport and Positive Communication. The contributions came from the possibility of carrying out campaigns that encourage tourists to adopt “Responsible Tourism”.
