Niterói is the third city that receives the most tourists from the State of Rio de Janeiro, behind only the capital and Búzios. The city basically attracts by its cultural and historical centers and by its ocean beaches. At the same time, the city's hotel chain is very limited.

This is due to the fact that most tourists come to Niterói as an extension to the city tour of Rio, that is, they spend only a day or two in the city, but stay in the capital.

Among its most visited attractions are Icaraí Beach, the main neighborhood of Niterói, with stones from Itapuca and Índio; the Niemeyer Way, an architectural ensemble that contains, as cultural centers, the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum, the Juscelino Kubitschek Square, the Popular Theater of Niterói, the Charitas Water Station, the Oscar Niemeyer Foundation and four other projects in progress and the Complex of Fortes de Niterói.
